India's early exit from WC 2007

Well, first of all, I pay my condolences to the great INDIAN players who could not make it to the finals...errrrrrrrr.....sorry...to the Super Eight round of the WC 2007.

Well I guess we were unlucky to have Bangladesh in our group..(I dont know..all of a sudden these B-grade players changed there grades and defeated us. I feel ICC had a setting with them...Or they must have taken steroids...or some kind of drug since all of them used to go mad after taking a wicket...dancing all around and punching up in the air...now if you wanna punch at least punch in the right direction).

I have a question that is killing me...Does India perform good in WC after being defeated in a tournament just before the world cup commences???(This happened in WC 2003. But in this WC..we played extra-ordinary in the previous tournaments)

I can understand that INDIANS are human beings(Yes they are) and they are bound to make mistakes. Cricket is a game after all...(I believed Till Bob Woolmer was killed...) Sometimes the players are bound to perform badly and sometimes they shall be the Best. I dont understand why can't we take our defeat in a normal way rather than behaving like a child.

The media and the BCCI(Baramati Cricket Council of India) , I guess are going to make this sport a dirty and a non-promising sport. The media is just bothered about there publicity than anything else....
The BCCI is running around praising that Australian(Good for nothing coach). It has still retained him for some king of job(I guess Chappy is interested in MANDIRA BEDI and has bribed the BCCI for retaining him).... And the media on other hand is busy searching for some bad conduct of the Cricketers. The recent news about Sachin Tendulkar( The GOD is synonym for this Batsman/Bowler/Fielder) cutting the Cake with Indian tri-colour on it. Now the case should be filed against the person who did the icing on this cake....not the one who did the obvious thing of cutting the cake....

Now to add to this drama, the selectors are planning to take some freshers in the team....Are they gone mad? Is cricket like IT industry where in a fresher can do much better work than a 17 year experienced one...I feel it is more of show-off than anything else..They just wanna show some concern about the things happening...

There are more things to add... "Sachin should retire...Sachin no longer GOD of cricket...Sachin send the notice...". Now a question of retiring I guess should be an individual's decision. And specifically in case of the GOD...he has a lot to give to the world of cricket.. Not performing in two matches does not mean he is doomed... He is the MASTER BLASTER and shall remain one...
There is no doubt in his excellence... I doubt whether any one can break the record of his centuries in ODI... The DAY Sachin retires I bet more than half of the population of the world shall loose there interest in Cricket.

Habibul Bashar's comment on India and Pakistan not fit to be in Super Eight shows of his ignorance ..... Simply by performing good in a few matches does not mean they are superior. Let him experience th defeat in the forth coming series.

Well I personally wanna give a message to the INDIAN team...take this defeat in a positive manner than a negative one..and give your Best when you enter the ground next time...
Best of luck against the Bangladesh series... Hope that you reach the finals.....oops..I guess since there are only 2 teams you shall surely reach the finals.

Well, IMHO only one thing went terribly wrong. All the finger pointings that happened once after they returned !! Terribly bad on the Coach's part to start with it, and to make it so dirty and shackle the roots of integrity. Shame on you Chappel !! Complaining about the 14 member squad, after losing is the cheapest thing to do. I was high on opinion over him to continue with his job even after the WC debacle, but now everything has gone head over heals.

As you say Ashu, getting in freshers will never work out. The selectors will all take back their words now very soon after the so called fresh team will lose on their B'desh tour soon :) The current team is one of the most powerful team we ever had. Period. A simple three step approach in my opinion is all enough to get us back to business.

1. Get Dada back as Captain. He had more aggresssion than Dravid !! And for Heaven's sake the Big 3 should drop their onfield Ego !! Most of the times I see Dravid consulting Kumble and Sehwag rather than even seeking Ganguly's opinion. Thats not what we can give for the most successful captain of our country.

2. We somehow need place either for Kaif or Raina. The team lacked the spirit on the fielding side. Kaif is brilliant on raising the spirits of the entire unit. If not for his consistent single digits, we terribly missed him atleast on the fielding. If he is not firing after all warnings and effigy burning train Raina for the job. As of now we are forced to compromise Dinesh Karthik for this. But all 3 being younger, we can rotate them based on performance.

3. A simple performance based salary package and endorsments.

Once we do these three things, and give players (read as human) their time, most of our glory will be back. What we need after that is effective fine tuning. Shed egoes and come out with answers for simple questions like, Will Sachin be more better playing the opener? Can Ganguly bat at 2 down? Do we claim Agarakar still as an all-rouder? Did we give Irfan Pathan as much a chance to prove himself as an all-rounder as we gave Agarkar? Do we make terrible mistakes like playing Uthapa as a WC opener who has never played an overseas series?

Had we did these things, a couple of months before we are already into the semi-finals !!

BCCI, please grow up or get privatized !! Without doubt, you are equal to the bunch of money making politicions now !!!

Hey ashu, well thought words you put up there. good to know that someone(other than the media and BCCI) is still showing interest in cricket. I do agree with you, and also would like to tell a few mroe things. If you read all the reactions in the newspapers, the only sensible reaction(thats what I think) was given by none other than the great Narayanmurthy. He didnt go mad on the team like most others, neither did lose hope, but put up a simple frank solution(no doubt he heads such a mammoth). he suggested to have 30 guys, 15 new 15 experienced, and few from both teams to form 2 groups. Each group would participate in alternate matches. He told to make the cricketers work like servicemen, 5 days a week,8 hours daily practice, 2 days holiday and all other holidays and stuff. He reasoned that if you would have such things, then the bonding among players would be strong and no doubt so much practice would make those guys almost perfect!! what say?

I was discussing the same issue with my Brother In Law & I liked what he said - Sport knows only rule & should always know it : "LET THE BEST WIN"
